Favorite Teacher Essay Essays - Marcel Proust, Polling, Free Essays
Favorite Teacher Essay Essays - Marcel Proust, Polling, Free Essays Samantha Jacobs EDF 203 Dr. Day January 20, 2016 Favorite Teacher Essay I transferred to Owen County High School my sophomore year and was put in your class Mrs. Dorton. Ive never been good at the whole school thing, I have always been that student in class who could only understand something if the teacher would come up to me and explain it to me one on one. Not only that, but I need to do things hand on and not with a group of people. Unfortunately at my first High School it consisted of group work and teachers who would only lecture and then sit at their desk until the bell rang. Thankfully, my sophomore year of High School I was lucky enough to be in the class with my soon to be favorite teacher. When I think of what kind of teacher I want to become characteristics of you come to mind. Caring, loving, but also strict. I want to be that teacher where my students feel like they can come to me about anything, I want them to trust me as I trusted you. Not only that, but I loved how you would walk around the class to help explain things to the students who didnt quite understand what you said the first go around. Instead of being frustrated with said students you would simply look at them like anyone else and help them. I remember one day we were in class and you were just simply walking around teaching, no one had their phones out, and you would just make us laugh while explaining to us what the area of a rectangle is. Thats what I want as a teacher is to have the respect of my class like you did from us. While being able to have the students enjoy just the simplest lectures. Thank you for being my favorite teacher and I hope when I become a teacher, I can impact my students like you did for me.

Guide to Writing a Dialogue in an Essay
Guide to Writing a Dialogue in an Essay Composing a dialogue is one of the most intricate parts of essay writing. Many students instantly realize that crafting a good dialogue within the context of a story takes a lot of time and requires more work that simply describing the events. And thats not surprising as a dialogue should not simply present the direct quotations from different characters but bring the story to life. If you are unsure about how to use dialogue in your essay, read on. Lets figure out the main rules and standards together! Moving the Story Forward The main role of a dialogue is to help the story move forward by presenting conversations and thoughts. You can use a dialogue to speed up the pace of your essay if you feel that the narration slows it down or you can use it as a break between the long and overwhelming paragraphs. When writing conversations, you need to remember a few important things: Dialogues move the action, set the scene, explain the descriptions and predict the reactions and activities. They can do all these things at once, so dont use the conversations to just convey the information. Remind yourself of the characters voice to write a dialogue that sounds like a real speech. You may even use some grammatical mistakes to show the realistic conversation but make sure that you keep the balance between the actual talk and readability. Always use the speech as a characterization tool. From your words, a reader should understand a lot about the character: morality, background, appearance, etc. To advance the story, your dialogues should sound natural, not forced, and clear. At the same time, the conversations have to convey the characters emotions and show the reader how they interact with each other. Using Thoughts in Dialogue Using thoughts and memories in the conversation can also show the important details of your story. This indirect dialogue is another way to change ideas without the quotations. You may also use a combination of direct and indirect dialogue for emphasis. It looks like this: Billy and I moved on to the next painting.ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s the ugliest thing Iââ¬â¢ve ever seen.â⬠He curled his lip in disgust. Well, I thought he was the ugliest thing Iââ¬â¢d ever seen, and told him so.ââ¬Å"And also, you stink. But most of all, your taste in art stinks.â⬠To reveal emotions and thoughts, you need to use the sensory details: tasting, smelling, hearing, seeing. Try to show what is going on, dont tell. Thus, your essay will be more realistic and engaging for your reader. Formatting Your Dialogue The right format and style are key to the successful dialogue. Correct punctuation, tags and paragraphs are even more significant than the quotations themselves. Without following the main rules, it would be hopelessly confusing to understand who is speaking. Therefore, make sure that you format your dialogue accordingly. Rule 1: Punctuation goes inside quotations. ââ¬Å"Ill call you tomorrow!â⬠Anna screamed. Make sure to use two quotation marks for speech and one mark for speech within the speech. Even such a small thing as using the quotation marks can poorly reflect on your essay. Rule 2: A new speaker ââ¬â a new line. If you have several characters in your essay, its important to know who is speaking. With the line break, your reader wont be confused. ââ¬Å"I wish I could fly,â⬠John said longingly.ââ¬Å"Why donââ¬â¢t you grow wings, then?â⬠Sarah snapped back. If there is the action connected with a character, describe it in the same paragraph, then start a new line. Rule 3: Break up dialogue in two parts. Its annoying to wait until the end of a speech to put a dialogue tag because it is unclear for a long time who is speaking. Thats why is it better to write the first thought, place a comma and tag, and then continue the dialogue. ââ¬Å"I canââ¬â¢t believe I failed the exam,â⬠said Ben. ââ¬Å"I studied and studied, but somehow I choked and left most of it blank.â⬠As you see, all dialogues follow a simple guideline. Keep the main rules in mind and start writing a dialogue to convey your message!

Relationship Between Athena And Odysseus To The Job And God Essay
Relationship Between Athena And Odysseus To The Job And God - Essay Example Athena had developed deep attachment for Odysseus and sought the permission of her father Zeus, according to the Iliad, to provide Odysseus with unconditional support and services. She undergoes hunger, thirst, and pains in order to help her beloved King Odysseus accomplish his tasks of winning the battles and overcome his rivals and enemies. Not only this that she protected the great warrior, from calamities, disturbances, and problems, during his war campaigns, but also, she guises herself many times in the form of a bird, a shepherd boy, a little lass and others to help him reach his destination safe and sound. Her valuable counsels turned the tables in favor of her beloved and the opponents had to lick the dust during bouts and fights. Her utter feelings of unabated, unwavering and unconditional love and affection have been described by Homer in his Iliad: ââ¬Å"Two of a kind, we are, contrivers, both. Of all the men alive you are the best in plots and storytelling. My own fame is for wisdom among the gods - deceptions too. Would even you have guessed that I am Pallas Athena, daughter of Zeus, I that am always with you in times of trial, a shield to you in battleâ⬠? The Hebrew Bible, Old and New Testaments and the Quran also contain some personalities, which had rendered their services to their beloved. In the mythology of Abrahamic religions, holy prophets, noble saints, and pious men are the characters, who rendered their services out of their love for One and the Only i.e. Almighty God, the Supreme Being.

Relationship(s) between leadership and management 311 Essay
Relationship(s) between leadership and management 311 - Essay Example On the other hand, with the rapid growth of the business sector and constant changes in the nature of markets, the theories, concepts and practices of leadership and management have also evolved (Baker and Desjardins, 2013). Relating to these changes, this essay focuses on analyzing the contribution and use of leadership and managerial concepts in ensuring sustainable business practices and growth. As stated by Brown, Trevià ±o and Harrison (2008), selection of the managerial process in a business is dependent upon the style of leadership being applied. On the other hand, Bogardus (2009) mentioned that the management practices of a firm define the leadership styles that can be implemented. Both of these notions can be analyzed in an in-depth manner by reflecting their characteristics and objectives of utilization. As highlighted by Morgan (2009), the key objective of management is to enhance that the aims of the organization can be fulfilled while leadership establishes the mission and vision that provides direction to a company. Supporting this notion, Kim and Brymer (2011) further added that as an organization is structured and the work culture is established, the style of leadership among the various operational variables of the business differ. In the business sector, this sort of alignment between leadership and management can be often observed. As an evidence for the above stated concept of alignment of leadership and management, the managerial process of Google Plc can be taken into consideration. The mission of Google is to help in spreading knowledge by innovating new platforms for sharing information all over the world (Day, Harrison and Halpin, 2012). Based on this mission, the managerial and leadership aspects of the company are developed. Lunenburg (2011) highlighted that Google being a technology firm depends on innovation and thus have created a participative managerial and leadership culture

Drinking Alcohol Essay example -- Papers
Drinking Alcohol Alcohol can and does kill millions of people. It can effect your brain and make you shake, lose all your senses, and kill off your brain cells. It also can cause your liver to deteriorate and not function properly. Liver transplants are hard to come by and do not happen often, if your liver goes out you do not have many chances of living much longer. You could also choke on your puke and die. Drinking too much alcohol can kill you, but millions of people consume mass amounts daily. College students drink and party a great amount. The average student drinks at least three nights a week and that is the weekend. Most sororities and fraternities encourage drinking. The fraternities make their pledges drink and the kids love it. It makes them loosen up and have a good time meeting new people. Drinking is also a good way for students who do not know anybody to meet new people and feel more comfortable when they go into an unfamiliar place with a lot of strangers around. When someone is drunk they feel more comfortable and able to talk to random people they do not know and have a good time. Once someone becomes familiar with certain people or just being drunk around strangers, it becomes a habit and that is when school work starts to not be important anymore. Students who drink start to stop attending classes because they are hung-over, tired because they did not go to bed, or just do not feel like going because they would like to start drinking again. The! re are those who can drink every night of the week and still go to class, do their homework, and keep their grades up. Those who can do that are very rare and end up eventually stop being able to do it anymore and fail out of school. It is not very hard for... ...time where there was a lot going on and had many opportunities to drink. I am going to settle down for a while and become a book worm. I have on midterm this week on two next tuesday so it is time to focus on my work. Alcohol is something that many people consume. Some can handle it, and others do not know how to control it and it controls them. I know that I drink, but I know that it will not become a habit and I have it under control. I feel bad for people who are alcoholics and can not control their drinking. The worst is an alcoholic who does not think they have a problem. I just wish those who did drink could sit down have a couple and be happy. A lot of people get drunk and violent. I have friends who have broken many things and hurt a lot of people just because they were drunk and everyone let it go because of it. Alcohol can be fun when it is used wisely.

The subjects referred to where the importance of time and place, setting, and culture. During our discussion, it was easily recognized that time and place held great significance. With the novel being set over a time period of one day, it supports many elements of the story. For example, the time period really seems to drag and it takes forever for one day to pass. The time setting also helps create a foundation for the mood and tone. For example, since the time of one day seems to drag on, it adds the effect of a very slow and depressing life for the prisoners.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦It is explained throughout the different periods that they live their lives day to day and still have hope for the best and pray. Faith and religion has a significance of showing that some prisoners still have hope and something to believe in. These topics are obviously shown throughout the novel and all have great significance. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn developed a first-hand experience when he was thrown in a Soviet Union labor camp called the Gulag. This experience influenced him to write his work, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, for the intentions of raising an awareness of the Soviet Union forced labor camp system. As the title advocates, the novel follows a lingering time period of one day and conveys a glimpse at what life was like in a Soviet Union labor camp from the point of view of the prisoners. Solzhenitsyn uses the setting to impact the effectiveness of the mood within the work, which is reflected through the characters. In the work, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn uses the historical setting to relieve his criticisms about Soviet totalitarianism. In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Solzhenitsyn presents the setting by using simplistic vocabulary to set up the novelââ¬â¢s grim mood. This is important as the novel uses straightforward narration that gives the context of the novel by discussing the setting: As usual, at five oââ¬â¢clock that morning reveille was sounded by the
